My armies for Make War Not Love 4, version 2

As Make War Not Love 4, the Luxemburgish Wargaming Event (note that it is explicitly not a tournament, but an event to meet fellow GW aficionados and unleash the dogs of war in a casual and relaxed atmosphere) is drawing near, I am getting my armies ready for it. I have to say that Yann and the others always make it a memorable event with great tables, nice guys and amazing trashtalk and it always inspires me to add some new stuff to my armies or get that last unit built and painted.

This year I plan to bring two 40k armies and no Warhammer armies. There are only 2-3 Warhammer players there and so taking a Warhammer army is a lot of work, as it involves packing stuff (possibly Monsters or other large things that you can’t just put into a carrying case, but have to wrap individually to keep them in one piece), unpacking it there, then packing it up again and getting it home safe, all for one game. I might do a dramatic reversal and bring my Ogres as I think they are all packed already in a large case, but the verdict is still out and I think I want to concentrate on 40k as I currently believe it to be the game I enjoy more.

Of the armies I have, the Eldar are out as they are too beardy right now. The Dark Eldar, I’d love to play, but I haven’t used them in a while and they fall into that weird category of either dying horribly against Tau or Guard, but mauling most other armies by bringing a critical mass of poisoned weapons and lances. I guess I could bring the Blood Angels, but right now they are more of my Apocalypse army as they are just too expensive compared to Dark Angels and Codex Marines, with a Tactical Squad being a full 30 points more  and so forth.

This leaves me with the two armies I have had the most fun playing with recently, the Plague Riders of Nurgle and the Golden Legion.

The Golden Legion List looks like this:

Necron Overlord Ozymandias IX: Warscythe, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb, Mindshackle Scarabs

Koszik the Perpetual: Harbinger of Eternity: Aeonstave, Chronometron

The Golden Phalanx:20 Necron Warriors: Ghost Ark

Sunkillers: 4 Harbingers of Destruction: Eldritch Lances, 1 Solar Pulse

Destroyer Lord Nehek: Sempiternal Weave, Mindshackle Scarabs

The Silent Ones: 6 Canoptek Wraiths

The Guardians: 10 Warriors

The Brotherhood: 5 Immortals: Tesla Carbines

The Stormbringers: 5 Immortals: Tesla Carbines

The Unforeseen Doom: 5 Immortals: Gauss Blasters, Night Scythe

The Oathsworn: 5 Immortals: Gauss Blasters

The Bringers of Destruction: 2 Annihilation Barges

The Graven Sentinels: 2 Tomb Spyders

Raider’s Doom: 3 Scarab bases

This is my list that I have discussed at great length in other posts, though it has been slightly changed. I kicked the Deathmarks as they are not that great and replaced them with another 5 Immortals. I have also changed the Scarabs from the Charnel Scarab version from IA12 to the regular ones. This means they gain Entropic Strike to strip armour of vehicles and monsters, but lose Rending and Shred, so they won’t simply murder every infantry unit they encounter.

As said before, the main strengths of this army are the sheer resilience of most units and the mass of Tesla shots to kill infantry and Gauss shots to kill tanks. Its primary weakness is that it dies as soon as it is charged and has little to nothing to deal with mass Terminators or Fortifications.

If I scale it down to 1500, I would do the following:

Necron Overlord Ozymandias IX: Warscythe, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb, Mindshackle Scarabs

Koszik the Perpetual: Harbinger of Eternity: Aeonstave, Chronometron

The Golden Phalanx:18 Necron Warriors

The Sunkiller: Harbinger of Destruction: Eldritch Lance,  Solar Pulse

Destroyer Lord Nehek: Sempiternal Weave, Mindshackle Scarabs

The Silent Ones: 6 Canoptek Wraiths

The Guardians: 10 Warriors

The Brotherhood: 5 Immortals: Tesla Carbines, Night Scythe

The Bringers of Destruction: 2 Annihilation Barges

The Graven Sentinels: 2 Tomb Spyders

Raider’s Doom: 3 Scarab bases

So I’d get rid of the Ghost Ark, most Immortals and some Crypteks.

The other army will be the new and fluffier Plague Riders list:

Ogedei Khan, Huntmaster of Nurgle, Chaos Lord of Nurgle: Chaos Bike, Blight Grenades, Veteran of the Long War, Sigil of Corruption, Power Fist, Lightning Claw

Shakura, Stormseer of Nurgle: Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle: Chaos Bike, Spell Familiar, Mastery Level 3

Plague Riders of Nurgle: 6 Chaos Bikers of Nurgle: 2 Plasma Guns, Aspiring Champion with Power Fist, Veterans of the Long War

The Grim Brotherhood: 7 Plaguemarines: Rhino, 2 Meltaguns, Aspiring Champion with Power Fist and Combi-Melta

The Servant of Decay: 10 Cultists of Nurgle

Inquisitor Gamoray and Retinue (remains): 5 Spawn of Nurgle

Blight: Heldrake: Baleflamer

Famine: Maulerfiend

Plague: Maulerfiend

Xo’gnar’oth the Corpulent, 77th Servant of Nurgle: Great Unclean One, Mastery Level 3, Exalted Reward, Greater Reward

Plaguescribes: 10 Plaguebearers of Nurgle

Miasma: 3 Plaguedrones

This army works in three waves: The Bikers, Spawn, Maulerfiends and Plaguedrones are all fast enough to get in there by turn 2. The Great Unclean One, Heldrake and Plaguemarines mop up survivors and the Plaguebearers and Cultists are there to occupy objectives. The main weakness of this list is that everything is rather expensive, so horde armies can overwhelm it or massive firepower can cripple it quite fast. There are also only 3 scoring units so I can get knocked off objectives fast. Extra fluff points should be given for everyone who can having the Mark of Nurgle.

As usual, comments are welcome. Are the lists more appropriate now or still too beardy.
